As plans are well under way for 2020 its always a worthwhile exercise to look back on the previous 12 months and review what was achieved. Each year is a new challenge and it is vital to learn from the negatives and celebrate the positives. 2019 was a fantastic year for Pentaxia which saw us scoop awards from both SEMTA and Composites UK, launch our company strapline and values, develop our R&D Centre, achieve staff growth of +15% and welcome a host of exciting new customers to our ever-growing portfolio.
In March at the annual SEMTA Skills Awards we were nominated for the SME Investment in Skills award. To be recognised for the investment we place in our staff training and development is an achievement in itself but on the night we scooped not only the award for SME Investment in Skills but also the Best of British Engineering award which recognised our contribution to the advanced manufacturing and engineering sector as a whole! Praise indeed and a credit to the hard work of all the Pentaxia team. And then six months later at the Composites UK Awards we were thrilled to receive the Employer of the Year award. The award recognised our continual investment in our people, our plant and equipment to ensure we maintain our competitive advantage. It was great to be recognised for the efforts we put into our training programme and staff development as it is something that is very important to our management team.
As our numbers grow so must our ambition! 2019 saw us launch the company strapline:
Be The Best You Can Today, Be Better Tomorrow
This is a great adage for anyone but particularly applies to our company ethos where we strive to achieve the best for our customers whilst always looking for ways to improve further. Our company values cover achievement, excellence, integrity and shared ownership all vital in a company that prides itself on delivering a quality on time service to all our customers.
With continued improvement in mind, 2019 saw us develop our Research & Development facility by adding additional equipment and personnel. As we are constantly looking for ways to automate processes to improve performance the investment in this area will ensure we are able to lead the way as both the industry and the company develops.
The Pentaxia family continues to grow and we really do see our workforce as a family. Every individual contributes and together we achieve incredible things. With a growing order-book we need to ensure we have the correct skills and attitude within our staff to achieve and exceed our customers’ expectations. Credit to our HR department that they are able to find people that integrate into the team seamlessly, demonstrate a positive outlook and are enthusiastic to learn the skills of the trade. With our dedicated training programmes we are able to welcome trainees into the composites industry and equip them with the skills to become leaders in their field.
2019 also saw us working with many new customers including Briggs Automotive Company – manufacturers of the BAC Mono R and the HUUB Wattbike team. The HUUB project was particularly interesting introducing us to the world of track cycling as we worked with the team to develop their base bars and extensions. It was great to work with a local Derby business to create products that would be seen on an international scale.
It is very easy to get focussed on the challenges of the new year and forget the successes of the previous year. In 2018 we celebrated 10 years in business, in 2019 we were award winners, what will 2020 bring?
Whatever it is the team at Pentaxia are ready for the challenge. Ready to do the best we can today and better tomorrow!
