We see real value in educating the young people in our community so when we were recently approached by ‘Raising Aspirations’ to visit a local school, we jumped at the chance to talk about what its like to work within the engineering sector.
The Raising Aspirations programme is managed by the Derbyshire Education Business Partnership. It has been created to provide specialist support to Year 10 and/or Year 11 students to help them develop skills, ideas and grow in confidence to help them make positive further education or career choices when they reach school leaving age. One of the key elements of the programme is getting students to engage with employers.
Our representative from Pentaxia was Harj Sanghera one of our Quality Assurance Engineers. Harj presented to a small group of students at Derby Moor Academy. Highlights were the fields in which we specialise, the benefits of using composites for various applications, some of the exciting customers that we work with and the training programme that has been developed to help us produce some home-grown talent in the world of composite manufacturing.
Following the presentation the students had the opportunity to ask questions with most being particularly interested in the excitement of working on a new project. As Pentaxia move into robotics at our new R&D centre and with our growing client base this is certainly something that happens here a great deal!
Inspiring the youth of today to become the engineers of tomorrow is a great privilege and we would like to thank Raising Aspirations and Derby Moor Academy for the opportunity.
